REPRESENTATION OF TEENAGERS UNABLE TO VEIW ON WORD OR POWERPOINT

Throughout UK Drama, teenagers are represented in ways where the common ideology of teenagers is shown. They are shown as secretive, stressed and often rude people.
Some UK TV Drama shows include, Eastenders E20, Skins, Misfits and The Inbetweeners.

Representation of Teenagers –
Teenagers are represented throughout UK TV in many different ways. I have come to find that there are assorted types of representations when it comes to teenagers. By looking at the UK Tribes website. I found that the representation of teenagers are put into different categories of all in which I am very familiar with. Some sets which teenagers are known from are chavs, Emos, street rats, skaters, ravers, geeks and hipsters. For example there are mainstream, urban, alternative and hipsters, all of which represent their own styles and ways of living. I believe teenagers are recognised by teenagers through these categories. In most UK TV Drama shows like Eastenders E20, Skins and The Inbetweeners , we are presented with a selection of teenagers who all have different origins, backgrounds and ways of living. This denotes that the teenagers (aimed audience) who watch these programmes will automatically recognise what these teenagers represent and where they come from. I think that by using this idea of representation draws more attention to the show and keep its audience engaged.

Detailed plan of research - Martial arts

In the next two weeks I will be focusing on how martial arts is represented in action movies. I think that ideally and commonly martial arts has been known as a way of expressing anger and violence throughout most martial arts films but as a Taekwondo student and instructor, i believe there is much more positivity to martial arts than just violence and expressing anger.
My aim is to research on well known and successful martial arts films and analyse they way they have been narrated and filmed to create that ideology of violence. I will focus on why people that haven't had any knowledge of martial arts feel this way about these films. To compare, I will also look at other films where martial arts is represented more as a way of life, less stressful, peaceful and disciplined. i think that the way these films have been edited and filmed have a huge role on how they will deliver a message to their audience and also, the way they have been narrated will give audiences a different purpose to martial arts, which is also something I will look at.
It is important for people to know and audiences of martial arts films to know that Martial arts is not always violent is in some parts of the world, like an prioroty and religion to some. In Korea most people and children spend time on Taekwondo than they do on their studies at school. I think that this is the reason to why Korea as a country is a very respected, disciplined country and this ca be due to their commitment to Martial arts.

The methods I will be using to work on my research are by visiting internet sites, movie databases and watching and analysing movies where I can find the right information. I will also be talking to and interviewing my Taekwondo instructor who has been nominated the main body of The British Taekwondo foundation, and new and old students who attend Martial arts clubs to find out their views on martial arts and the way it is/ has been represented.

Areas where I need advice on:
I need to know how I can get some textual evidence on how Korea is a disciplined country.
I need to know if its okay to use my instructor's views as research for my investigation.
If this topic of martial arts is enough or appropriate to investigate.

Potential Essay Title: Investigation on the representation of Martial Arts.

Brief for Linked production:
- A short film ????
- A documentary on a martial arts student life, focusing on the way it has effected his social life and confidence and discipline - inspired by the 1984 karate kid movie.

Marxism - Blue pill and Red pill

Analysis of Youtube Blue pill and red pill clip

The scene I am anylising is from the movie 'Matrix' which instantly reminds me of the similar word 'Marxism' which could connote its meaning throughout this movie.
We are presented with middle aged white man welcomed by a tall black man. The sound of lightning and rain in the background as they speak connotes a dull and gloomy era to the scene. '' I imagine, that right now you feel abit like Alice.. tumbling down the rabbit hole?'' (taken from the narrative of Alice and the Wonderland) and '' do you believe in fate?''.. ''no because I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my life''. These two quotes are spoken by the two characters which instantly connote the idea of marxism and the idea of being in two different worlds. The young white man is offered two pills, one red and one blue as if he has been given a choice of which way he wants to live in.
He takes the red pill and the scene closes into darkness and the same era of gloomyness to give the audience a worried feeling.

Marxism and the media Reflection

Marxists ideas have had an huge impact on Cultural theory and Ideology.

He has believed the most powerful force in society was the economic self interest of the dominant social class and the struggle with the 'up and coming' subordinate classes or groups. The ideology of the social society therefore a legitimation of the ruling classes and their position.

Society is seen to be motivated not by consensus but by conflict. I agree with this ideology as I believe society is being slaved (working for) the ruling classes, through being tempted by companies and the goverment.
